(British India)

British India was the part of the Indian subcontinent that was ruled by the British from 1858 to 1947. It included modern-day India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. During this time, the British controlled the government, economy, and military. Many Indians worked under British rule, but there was also a strong struggle for freedom led by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Subhas Chandra Bose. In 1947, British India was divided into two countries, India and Pakistan, gaining independence from British rule.
