General Zia-ul-Haq was Pakistan’s sixth President and military leader from 1978 to 1988. He took power in 1977 after removing Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in a coup. During his rule, Zia introduced Islamic laws to change Pakistan’s legal and social systems. He also played a key role in the Soviet-Afghan War, supporting Afghan fighters against the Soviet Union. Zia’s leadership ended in 1988 when he died in a mysterious plane crash, leaving a lasting impact on Pakistan’s history.
